West of Larnaka
and your hotel lies a region that waits to be explored. This region known as Orini (mountainous) is ideal for those wishing to leave the coast for 6-7 hours and make a short, but exciting journey of discovery on their own. This journey of about 190km from your hotel starts from the 7th ancient site of Choirokitia and takes you to traditional villages, monasteries, museums and taverns.

A5 route from Larnaka towards Limassol
Start your route at Choirokitia. Then it is on to Vavla picturesque village, Ayios Minas Monastery, the wonderful Kato Drys Village, famous Lefkara (known for its lace and embroidery), Vavatsinia and Agioi Vavatsinias. On the way back stop at Skarinou the stone built Village for a typical Cypriot meal in the centre of the village. From the terrace of the tavern enjoy magnificent views.

Hiking / Cycling routes that can be reached by car

Rizoelia Forest Route
12km picnic area, Playground, Sports & Walking trails, Bicycle track, Observation points.

Choirokoitia-Tochni Village-Agios Fanourios
2km suitable for adults in good fitness levels. Sudden uphill/downhill changes.

Pano Lefkara-Kato Drys
Duration-1hour. Suitable for adults in very good fitness levels. * Narrow and steep terrain.

Agioi Anargyroi
45km easy trail with gentle gradient. * Near Cape Greko in Ayia Napa.

Sotira
Take the Sotira hiking/cycling village route & visit the byzantine churches. Just 42km (35mins) from the Golden Bay Beach Hotel and The Lordos Beach Hotel.

Potamos tou Liopetrou
Continue further to the Potamos tou Liopetrou for picturesque scenery & tasty fish.

Hike on the 3km beach in front of the hotels and enjoy the sea breeze.

Larnaka Seafront & Salt Lake Tekkes
Hike/Cycle along the seafront of Larnaka from Finikoudes area towards Mackenzie beach. Then it’s on to the salt lake with the Tekke mosque.

Voroklini Hill
This is the nearest cycling route from the hotels. 207m above sea level – various levels of difficulty offering beautiful views of Larnaka Bay. * Unpaved roads.

Mazotos – Kofinou Cycling Route
80km excursion along the western coastal district of Larnaka, climbing towards the hillside villages of the region and past the Choirokoitia archaeological site to end at Kofinou.

Watersports

With its shallow and un-rocky waters, Larnaka Bay makes watersport activities a safe and enjoyable experience. Watersport centres & kiosks operate on The Golden Bay Beach Hotel & The Lordos Beach Hotel premises, offering a vast variety of activities. Watersport lovers propose a ride on a Jet Ski or the thrill of Para Sailing, Water Skiing and Wind Surfing, offered from morning hours until late afternoon.

Kite Surfing

Larnaka is a favorite destination for this sporting activity. World Kitesurfing Champion, Kevin Langeree, tested the Larnaka waters highlighting the thermal winds, waves and safe waters of the area.

The coastal area from Mazotos to Kiti villages have been confirmed as the best spots for kite surfing. With steady winds from May to October, Larnaka is considered the best place in Cyprus for this sport, with these western coasts offering the ideal conditions.

Angling

There are more than 100 dams and reservoirs in Cyprus and more than 20 are open to anglers.
The majority of them contain several species of freshwater fish, including Trout, Largemouth Bass, Carp, Pike, Perch and Roach. Special license is required for those wishing to practice fishing in dams. Our Hotels can arrange to provide you with your personal licenses five working days prior to your arrival.

Zenobia Wreck

This enormous Swedish ship and her cargo are buried on the seabed 800m off the Larnaka coast since it went down in 1980.

It is considered one of the best diving sites in Cyprus and has been rewarded a place in the top-5 wreck dives in the world.

It has a range of diving levels, allowing both beginners and experienced divers to appreciate its beauty (max depth 42m ~ top rail 18m).

Diving & Snirkeling

Tranquil clear & warm Mediterranean waters ~ ideal for both experienced and beginner scuba divers. Diving sites: HMS Cricket (The old World War II British Battleship) Diving Site, the British Helicopter Wreck and the Zenobia Wreck Diving.

Mackenzie, Pervolia, Foinikoudes & Dhekelia beaches are famous for scuba diving, jet skiing, canoeing, salt water fishing and charter tours.

Bird Watching

Cape Gkreko

It lies on the East side of Larnaka. This region falls under a busy migration route between Africa and Europe. It is mainly attractive during Spring ~ migrants include Herons, Egrets, Raptors, Honey Buzzard, Black Kite and Pallid Harrier, White-throated Robin and Red-breasted Flycatcher breeds.

Paralimni Lake

Seasonal lake ~ Declared a Special Protection Area for birds , it introduces Flamingos, Heron species, Crakes, Waders, species of ‘Marsh’ Tern; White-tailed Lapwing and Spur-winged Lapwing breeds.

Achna Dam

This artificial reservoir was built around twenty years ago. It is now declared a Special Protection Area for birds ~ It includes Dalmatian Pelican Pelecanus crispus, Great Black-headed Gull Larus Ichthyaetus and Lesser Whitefronted Geese Anser Erythropus. Cyprus is one of the most significant places for birds at a national, European and Worldwide level, due to its geographical location and warm environment.

Oroklini Lake

A natural lake, located only a few minutes away from our Hotels. Oroklini Lake is a Natura 2000 site and also classified as a SCI under the Habitats Directive (92/43/EEC) for its halophytic marsh vegetation.

Mazotos

Just after dawn and before dusk, visitors can see passerine migrants such as Flycatchers and Wheatears.

Kiti Dam

This site is excellent when it holds water, as it reveals wintering Wildfowls, including White-fronted Geese and Red-crested Pochard.

Larnaka Salt Lake

Larnaka Salt Lake is famous for the wintering of Flamingos, Wildfowl, Gulls, Waders and Terns.

Culture & Religion

Municipal Art Gallery

Located on Europe Square at the Larnaka centre, the Gallery holds mainly modern art exhibitions.

Kamares (the old Aqueduct)

Also known as Bekir Pasha Aqueduct. It was built in 1747 consisting of 75 arches of channelled water from the river Tremithos to Larnaka until 1936. It is one of the most important monuments preserved since the Ottoman period.

Municipal Museum of Natural History

Located within the Municipal Gardens. Large collections of local reptiles, insects, birds, animals, fossils and rock formations are on display.

Pierides Museum

This is the nation’s oldest private museum. It mainly projects the Greek Civilization through a journey of Prehistoric, Geometric, Archaic, Classic & Hellenistic times, with objects dating from 4,000 B.C.

Larnaka Medieval Castle

It is situated at the coastal avenue of ‘Foinikoudes’, dating back to the 13th Century. It consists of Antiquities from 4th-16th centuries A.D. Paintings from 11th-16th centuries A.D., Pottery from 12th-18th centuries and Swords dated from the 18th century.

Ecclesiastical Museum of St. Lazarus

Located at the St. Lazarus Church. It exhibits important relics and icons, Byzantine Gospels and Crosses.
